What to do when having a bad day

Having a bad day is something all of us have to face from time to time. It can interfere with everything; schedule, daily routine, fitness plan, being healthy… And having such a label like “bad day” indicates that this is so broad and there is no definite area in which “things are going down-hill” to specify. No matter what’s causing it, the mood is the one being affected, and the feelings that swoop in are ones often described as lethargic and introvert. So judging at first glance one may say that in such case we lose determination, sense of time and

What is responsible for having a bad day?

First of all we must realize that “having a bad day” is just a concept that exists in our minds only. The reasons are as broad as the condition itself. Tough schedule, something unexpected happening, something connected with the surroundings, giving up to laziness, not following your “routine”… you name it. Sometimes it can be simply so.

As opposed to regular days

This is actually the criteria by which we judge what means having a bad day. If you like things organized, then a bad day may represent lack of . If you like going out, than it may be very hard for you to stay home for couple of days for example. If you like doing things a certain way, and then suddenly something interferes- well it can be a bad day for you. Getting sick is always a downer, and also people find it hard for them when they lose motive and determination for something they are doing.
So by this we can see that having a bad day is something that all of us are likely to face from time to time. The question is what to do when this comes?

Should you fix it?

Here is the interesting part. Even though having a bad day is something we all try to escape there is a split opinion on whether you should try to fix it or just let it be. Trying to fix it is the first logical thing to do- you do something that hopefully improves your mood, and tilt things up in you favor. But here is a contra argument: It is proven that people get more moody and depressed when trying to fix their mood, and fail in the process. How come? Well trying desperately to turn a bad day into better will most likely result with you realizing just how depressed you are, and that alone can lead to more moody day for some people.

There is also another practice supporting this claim- having a bad day can impact you in a way that you will come to realize how well you are doing overall, and even give you more motive and inspiration for slipping into your regular routine tomorrow. That alone will in turn improve your mood too.
So sometimes it’s better to let things be just as they are. But however, if you like to try and improve your day instantly then there are ways for that too.

Having a bad day- how to fix it

Allowing to feel bad and doing nothing to fix that is just not the way for some. So here are ways that you can try when having a bad day:

• Tidy up your workspace or your room

Having your surroundings organized and tidy can help you feel better in an instant. Even the little adjustments can do the trick. Organize your desk, clean up if you like. Really, sometimes it’s all it takes. Organization makes a huge difference.

• Organize your computer

Living in the coconut of technology implies that it’s part of our lives whether we like it or not. If you are using your computer a lot, then organizing your files and folders can make you feel more on top of things, which will in turn improve your day.

• Exercise

This is always a boost to your mood. I practice it a lot. You see, exercising even for a short amount of time can make you feel better. How come? Well first and foremost you get the feeling you are doing something good for yourself (that always boosts your mood), and another thing that is important is the release of chemical processes inside your body while you are doing some physical activity. The release of endorphin is one of them, and it brings you in a better mood right away. Exercise really does help.

• Make plan

For today, tomorrow, or week ahead- It doesn’t matter really. The important thing is that in the process of planning some aspect of your life (goals, time management, career…) you get the feeling you are in charge, and that in turn makes you less lethargic and more energized. Besides you get the chance to think about days when you will function at your best, and that way you get more objective over your current situation, and you start to feel the need of change right away. The next thing you know- you are done with having a bad day.

• Give yourself a treat

Relax, forget about the bad day and the need to improve it, enjoy. Have a nice bath, listen to some music, watch a movie maybe. Make yourself smile even for a second. If so, then the bad day is over.

• Asking for a favor when having a bad day

Asking someone to do something for you is a good remedy for having a bad day. How come? Well, you get some attention and something good done for you. Try and think how this will reflect on your mood. Do not be shy to ask for help. Ask someone to just have a conversation with you, or ask someone to give you a massage. Really, it can make wonders.

Trying to overcome having a bad day is sometimes tricky. You can sometimes make more damage to your mood instead. So decide whether or not you will try to fix things or just let them as they are. If you do try to make yourself feel better, then apply some of the ways mentioned above. Maybe you have some that make your mood change towards better. Maybe you already tried some of the ones above. We will love to know whether or not you try to solve this, and if so what do you do when having a bad day?

10 simple tricks on how to speed up your metabolism

If you wanted to know how to speed up your metabolism then you’ve come to the right place. Metabolism- We all heard and read about it in some health magazine. It is mentioned right under health, energy, weight loss and so on.

But this post is a response to all of the gurus out there who tried to turn this important subject into making a profit for themselves while never giving some information.

This is a complete guide that will give you all the info you need, on how to speed up your metabolism.

Optimizing your weight loss process means that you must also optimize your metabolism as well. It will in turn have many positive effects on your body, but since we are here mostly to cover the area of weight loss and staying fit, in this post you will only be familiarized with the ways to do so.

So metabolism must be sky rocketing. Ok that’s loud and clear.

But now goes the question HOW?

Well before you are presented with the answer, and the knowledge, let me just say to you that it is so easy that no particular effort must be put into doing so.

Here are the 10 simple tricks on how to speed up your metabolism:

1. Eating regularly

How to speed up your metabolism - food

And here is what I mean by that:
Eating is proven to speed up your metabolism almost better than anything else. But now, was eating the reason that made me look on the internet for answers at the first place?

Weeell… Kinda true, but not entirely. You see, even though eating triggers the metabolism, if you eat too much that effect will be for nothing. But what is more important, if you eat in the wrong time, than you are also making mistake.

But what is wrong time?

Well the best thing to do is to eat several times throughout the day. But only with three main meals (which means richer) and two to three smaller meals (just a healthy snack).

By doing this you are making the metabolism faster constantly throughout the day. Another very important thing is to eat right after you wake up.

Why?

Well tell you what: While sleeping the body’s metabolism slows down to 30% regarding to some studies. So when you wake up, the body is still in safe mode, and by that it is preparing for maybe another wave of starvation like the one that it had over the night. Long story short it starts to stack nutrients into fat storage.

By eating in the morning as soon as you wake up, you are stopping this process, and instead of slowing, you are in fact speeding up your metabolism.

Starving is only going to slow down your metabolism, and you are wasting your body’s potential of burning calories.

As a science proof staying behind this theory I’ll take our evolution. That’s right. In prehistoric times humans were hunters, and eating regularly was not an option.

So if starving was the answer to losing weight, then I guess that our entire human race would never have survived.

You see, eating only from time to time (for example when a prey was caught) made their metabolism so slow that the body shut down all of the systems through which fat and calories could be spent. And that stayed embedded in our genetic code. That’s why eating more often is the best way to speed up metabolism.

2. Drink more water

I can bet with certainty that you’ve heard this one. But you must understand the simple mechanism that works behind this statement.

Many people give this advice, without even knowing for sure how it works. But I guess that’s OK.

So how more is “more”, and how it works on our body in order for it to achieve its goal?

Well, slightly less than half a gallon should suffice. And just like you’ve done with the food, the same applies here; meaning that you should drink this amount of water throughout the entire day.

Why it actually helps in speeding up your metabolism ? it is pretty simple really:

We know that water is used by the body in order to process calories, and also used by every other mechanism that works inside our body (here not directly, but a mild dehydration can slow the processes that happen daily in our bodies).

Because of that the lack of water is known to cause slower metabolism, as well as many other unpleasant things. Drink pure natural water, and eat fruits and vegetables as a snack.

Just for a warning, if you thought that this process can be multiplied, meaning that you can speed things up by drinking five times the amount recommended. The body isn’t designed to function with that amount of water, so be aware.

3. Spicy food adds to the speed

If your taste allows, than you are free to go with this one :)

Chili pepper, when added to the food is known to boost your metabolic rate. But there are as well many other spices that can add to this effect. Almost all of them have chemical compounds that make your metabolic rate jump through the roof.

And I don’t even have to mention that many of them have tons of other benefits as well. Take the curry for example. It can prevent serious diseases, and also can burn fat cells as well.

So don’t be afraid to add spice in your food if your taste allows.

4. Protein is the best friend to Mr. Speedy Metabolism

When talking about nutrition, I’m gonna tell you why protein is so good, but now let’s just focus on its power to speed your metabolism.

The thing is, our body’s digestion system needs more energy for dealing with protein. Around 25% more according to some studies, to be exact.

So imagine crossing this up with scheduling your meals, and fruits for snacks, and a lot of water during the day….. You pretty much get the picture now, don’t you?

In fact, in one of the next posts I will try to share with you which sources of food are high in protein, and how can you use the best out of protein just by adding one simple trick.

Even with the strategy so far you are about to see some incredible results, but keep reading, because there is more.

5. Coffee can do it as well

I myself am not a coffee drinker. Well at least not so much. But for some of you out there who are, this is good news.

Drinking coffee can give a small boost, and also be considered as an option. But never think that drinking too much coffee can speed things up. It can only make other unpleasant conditions to occur. So again, be aware how much you drink.

6. Short workout in the morning helps in speeding up metabolism

Have you had the feeling that you don’t wanna get out of your bed in the morning?

You feel tired even to go to the toilet, eat, dress?

Well if so, try this: Start by doing some simple stretching, and as time goes by day by day maybe do some push-ups or go jogging. The thing is to make a habit of doing some physical activity in the mornings.

Not just it will give you tremendous amounts of energy on short as well as on long term, but it will also give a constant speed to your metabolic levels. And that is for hours ahead.

Noting special, but few stretches and maybe some push-ups and squads will do the trick. And don’t get me started on how much this will also improve your weight loss process, and give you tons of other benefits. This will also improve your concentration and make you stay alert throughout the entire day.

7. Divide your workout if possible

It is quite interesting knowing the fact that splitting your workout in two sessions can actually burn you off more calories.

It is not so practical for some, but for the ones whose schedule approves, it can prove quite a trick. And if you are asking how, have in mind that it’s better to focus on the more difficult part first, and then go for the easier in the afternoon.

However, never do some heavy exercises in the first set, so you don’t have energy in the second. And never exercise prior going to bed. Preparing your body to go to sleep is one of the principles of having a healthy lifestyle.

8. Add a bit of a muscle

When people are in their twenties or thirties, or even in their forties the metabolism is recorded to be faster. So throughout the day their bodies burn a lot more calories just sitting or laying around. With time this slows down.

But here is the interesting thing:

Just by adding some muscle you double and even triple this process. Imagine burning calories while you watch TV, or even now while you are reading this. Quite cool huh?

The answer behind this is that muscle requires more maintenance, thus more calories are spent. So adding some muscle will make wonders for your metabolism rate on the long run.

9. Breathing

how to speed up your metabolism

Image: meepoohfoto / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Yeah, you heard right. Breathing. What the body needs in order to operate, and maintain all systems within working flawless is oxygen.

And it comes with breathing. The trick here is to be around where the quality of air is better. You know, less polluted places and so. So take a walk in a nearby park or forest, or take a long weekend somewhere in nature.

Camping is the best way here probably, or maybe you like some good old hiking ?

No wonder that people who live on the country side have faster metabolic levels. Also you can learn some breathing techniques. They will teach you how to inhale and exhale better in order to access more oxygen.

10.Good Night’s Sleep

Maybe less known, but equally important.

Have you felt lethargy that stretches throughout the day? For no reason at all?

Well first ask yourself whether you gave the body the minimum amount of rest. The thing is that when the body is properly rested it functions like it’s supposed to. This applies for the metabolism too.

how to speed up your metabolism

Image: graur codrin / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

So give the body the rest it deserves. It is proven that something between seven and a half hours, and eight hours is quite enough.

Giving the metabolic levels time to drop and your metabolism time to rest, will in turn make it faster the nest day.

So there you go. Try and implement as many things from the list as you can, and your metabolism will be racing. Now I say as many as you can because it is a bit hard to concentrate on all. But more you add to your approach the closer you are to your goal.

Also you will make one more step towards having a healthy lifestyle.

How to develop effective time management skills

Time management and organization can make or break your success in everything you try to do in life, and on the long run it’s better to do it sooner rather than later.

You see, if you try and look back in retrospect you will come to realize that the times when you have been the most productive, were the times when you were most organized. This is perhaps the most important thing when it comes to making that huge step forward, and start doing things the right way.

What is time management?

As for the phrase, if you search in dictionary you will find probably something like this:

“It is the process of exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities all for the sake of improving efficiency and productivity.”

The truth is, it’s more than that. Effective time management-clock

Time management is a process, chain of techniques if you will, that not only make sure that we are on our best when it comes to spending our time, but also gives us the opportunity to know we are doing the best we can, and taking all we can actually take.

Despite all that, it also gives you the pleasure to enjoy planning and deciding what is the best thing for you to do, when, and how much. Effective time management can do all of this for you.

Pure determination can only lead you half the way. Just imagine whether the highly driven for success athletes can go all the way just by desire. Or even just ordinary people that really need to do something challenging.

Can they succeed in doing what they want?

Maybe they can, but it will be more daunting than ever, and the conclusion will result in losing a great amount of time, which instead could have been used for something entirely different.

Effective time management in practice

Today we see time management as an essential tool used by everyone in order to achieve the desired results. Big corporations are trying this tool on their employees, institutions hire experts, and people seeking help from devoted personal trainers, etc.

The truth is this tool is most helpful lying in your hands.

You see, the thing is that nobody knows your limits as much as you do, and not a person on earth can tell what is more or less important to you than yourself. Yes that’s right. You are the most suitable for the task.

Experts can show you techniques, or teach you some tricks, but you, yourself, must do the rest. This is what i essentially realized, and want to write about today.

I will delightfully try to point to some important hints and tips on how to organize your time, and display some effective time management techniques that will show you step by step. But even my friend back me up on this one when I say that you are the one that have to do the rest.

Effective time management is nothing else but a personal undergoing action in order for YOU to be efficient and successful.

5 essential techniques for doing effective time management

At the very start on this one I must tell you that doing good, efficient and effective time management is actually a matter of knowing a couple of basic principles.

I will start by mentioning them in an order that will most likely make your approach easier. Also I will give some explanations.

1. Know your goals in life

  Effective time management-clock2
Knowing your goals, and deciding what you truly want from your live, is the first thing you should cover when starting with this.

Why?

Well, for one thing, time management is going to help you go where you want to and achieve things you desire, but how on earth can you go somewhere and achieve something when you don’t even have a clear goal.

You must set your course, and then follow it. So just try and think for a second what is that you truly want from life.

It’s not as easy as it seems. But take your time slowly because once you figure it out, all the rest will come more quickly. Write it down if you like. This will also benefit you a great deal. That way you will know latter for sure whether you are doing the desired progress or not.

But believe me, you will. Keep in mind that when you are doing this you should be rational and know your limits as well. Try and push yourself, but also be objective and you will see how it goes.

So just take your time with this one, and once you are all ready and set just go to the next step.

2. Be rational in deciding about the amount of time you want to spent

This is maybe as important as the first step. Ok maybe a bit less, but what I want to say is that it is also playing a crucial part as well. Ever asked yourself why people always end up failing their previously constructed plans? Well as far as I know, one of the things to blame is the massive optimism when it comes to deciding how much time we are about to spent.

You see giving yourself to much obligations, and cutting on free time, or activities that you really enjoy doing just for the fun of it, can result in quick failure of the whole idea. I mean come on, Is it even fair to stress your body or mind so much that it comes to the point of non-productiveness? Or just stop enjoying whatever that you really enjoy?

Of course it is not. Not just that it’s not good for you, but it will sabotage the whole thing you are trying to achieve.

3. Wasting precious time

I know that this one is not a new thing for you guys, and since you are here looking to learn some stuff on how to improve your lifestyle and productivity in life you all probably know this. But I must mention it again, because it’s really important. The thing is, you are trying to make more of your day, and that’s why you are doing time management at the first place.

But while making your effort to save, and use as much time as you can rationally, you probably waste some time that you are not aware of. Now this may be a shock to some, but studies and statistics have shown that all of us are actually spending time on people that force us into doing that.

What i am trying to say to you? Well it’s simple. Just think about all that people in your life that you are not quite fond of. You must have some, everybody has some ;)

The thing is there are some people as I said that always want to take a portion of your time, usually for some favor. Or there are some that just don’t have something to do, and try to waste your time every time they are facing loneliness or boredom. Of course maybe some of them are not even aware that they are smashing your productivity and the worst part is, we are not aware too. And make no mistake, this can be a big problem not only for your schedule, but your productivity in general.

So whatever the reasons are, the thing one must do is limit the time you waste with those kind of folks. But how to do that if we are not even aware of them?

Well for start just think in retrospect which people in your live have taken your precious time, smashed your productivity, and even drain your energy. Yes that’s right, energy. Even if we are not aware of, we can tell for sure when we feel full of it, or when we actually don’t have it. And one thing that I learned is that some people can take more of your energy just by talking to you, than you can spend in entire day.

Yeah, I know many of you are now agreeing with me on this one. So once you know for sure which are these people, just avoid them, or if that is not an option (I say this because nowadays we all sometimes must be with people we do not quite like) just try to say NO to them if you sense they are wasting your time, or just learn how to ignore them, and not attach emotionally to what they are saying.

By saying NO to people you do not want to be with, you are for sure gaining a lot of time to add up to your daily schedule.

Effective time management - sleepy girl

4. Expand your productivity by expanding your day

Now this is simple logic, the more time you have, the more productive you are. But I’m not saying about expanding your wake hours, but instead expanding your DAY.

You see, centuries ago people knew that they are most productive during the day. They felt full of energy on sunrise, and probably figured it out that there is no reason for one to be awake in the middle of the night. Today, the number of people who are still getting up early and going to bed couple of hours after getting dark is greatly reduced, of course, the reasons for that are well know and pretty much obvious.

Anyway nowadays scientists have proven that we are full of energy during sunlight, and it is best for us to go to bed early in the night. Now I’m not talking about going to bed in nine o’clock pm., but it’s certainly dull to be awake at three o’clock in the middle of the night, if you absolutely don’t have to.

Start implementing this and you will soon feel the difference.

5. Give yourself a treat

Well, with all others stuff mentioned it leaves me with only one more to wrap this up. Your schedule or time management if you like, must consist also with something you are fond of doing. Something that gives you energy to last the day, or something that just by the thought of it makes you feel good.

Whether this is hanging with your family, spending time with your kids, seeing your friends, walking your dog before you go to bed, swimming in the pool, playing hoops backyard, or maybe curl up and watch a movie or read a book, it doesn’t really matter. What matter is that you put this “activity” on the end of your day.

That way you will have something to hold up to, and every time your schedule is wearing you down, you will have the upper hand on the situation just by knowing that there is something that waits you after all your hard day.

That’s it. It is all that I consider being important when it comes to managing your time, and all that really makes a difference.

So go on, and try to implement these things to your everyday life, and then by managing your time you can really change your productivity, and improve your lifestyle too.

Have you ever tried managing your time and have something to share with us about that? Are you a fan of an effective time management? We will love to hear your experience on this matter.

5 reasons why you should forget the scale

You can hear people say that the weight scale is their best friend. Some claim that it is in fact your worst enemy.
So let me ask you something. What is your opinion? How often do you climb on the weight scale?

Many people going through some weight loss program are now probably thinking “well, every day” or “couple of times per day”. But looking more objectively on this matter may result in realizing just how stupid that is.

I stand firmly on the belief that the scale is your worst enemy when it comes to weight loss, shaping your body the way you like and improving your lifestyle in general.
And here is why :

  1. Unreal expectation

    The Scale

Seriously, what did you thought? That somehow, overnight you will see such changes as if someone threw a spell on you? Even though the fat burning process is on its highest somewhere in the night (That is if you’ve incorporated strength training in your program), chances are that it will NOT reflect on the immediate measuring the day after.

It all happens on molecular level, so it’s downright stupid to expect that your body made couple of days progress during just one night.

  2.

  3. Gives you the wrong impression

How come? Well if you are one of those who take every chance to hop in on the scale, then you probably get all the mixed signals all of the time. The days you thought you made the biggest progress, are not showing as well as you thought on the scale, and vice versa. And measuring yourself all the time just doesn’t gives you the feeling of progress since it’s always so little at a given time.

  4.

  5. Kills your motivation

As I mentioned in the one above, you can surely tell what will happen as a result of that wrong impression. And if you guessed questioning your progress, or loosing motivation, than you are right.

You see, making tremendous effort to stick to your diet, your exercise schedule, new acquired healthy habits… All of that is not easy at all, and the last thing you need is to question whether you are doing well or not.

That alone can demotivate you in a way that you will soon lose confidence in what you are doing, and certainly lose your determination more quickly as a result of that.

  6.

  7. Simple mathematics

I’ve seen many people exercising a lot while hoping to lose some weight. And the interesting thing about many of them is going on the scale after doing couple of days strength exercises.

What is wrong here? Can you guess it? Well I know I can. If you are doing some strength or bodybuilding exercises then hopefully your muscle mass will in turn increase.

So the next time when you go to the scale you not only get the picture that you are not doing some progress, but you also see some set back- you’ve gained some pounds. And while this is a good thing if you are doing those types of exercises, many will simply get plain confused.

  8.

  9. You focus on the wrong thing

Tell me something. Why do you want to lose weight? Is it in order for you to fit into your favorite jeans? Or is it because you want to be fit, therefore more energetic and younger? Or you just want to look good, plain simple as that?

Well no matter which one of this you choose, neither one of them is in any way connected with the weight scale and the way it measures the progress.

If any of the above are your reasons, than other things are more important. For example whether you’ve built some muscles and gave your body more form; whether you defined your muscle mass in a way that you are now looking fitter; whether you are losing fat on certain areas, therefore being able to fit into that jeans of yours, or finally wear that tight blouse.

I’m speaking through my head now, but all I want to say is that your progress was never centered on numbers.

Count more on things like looking into the mirror, explore things with touch. You will for sure have better understanding that way, and stop the obsession with the numbers.

Can you share your thoughts about this? You are addicted to the scale, or you measure your progress otherwise?

Why you need to organize your life

All of us have different goals in life. But that’s really OK. Each and every one is different in terms of likes and dislikes, each and every one has different priorities and perspectives on life. But regardless what we want, one thing that is common is the way in which we pursue that.

Some of us seems to always get what we go after, but some simply cannot find the right way. I say cannot find the right way, simply because that’s what it is. It is not that they don’t want to, or don’t try enough, but simply cannot figure out a way or approach towards their goal.

Now, I’m not going to pretend to be a smart-ass, and claim to know the answer to this one, but there is one thing that can help a lot when trying to attain your goals. I’m also pretty sure that you will back me up on this one, because you must have read it or heard it before, and many of you probably felt the benefits of it to.

Organization.

Yes, plain simple as that.Organize your life and make the key step in your pursuit for improved and healthy lifestyle.

Get organized and you will achieve the much needed consistency, keeping your willpower steady, and making sure that you are paving the right path. It is a virtue if you will, and a damn good one. And what is most important, nowadays it’s a necessity.

Organize your life and be closer to the success

  Organize your life
Just take a look on someone who is successful in life. Or let’s not try to define success, but rather let’s say someone who is enjoying life, and finding a way to what he or she wants.

The first picture you will get is of a person who is determined in what he is going after, and most of all a person who knows how to get organized, probably possess an effective time management skills and knows what to do in order to achieve his dream.

This alone reflects success, and imposes believe upon the others that no matter the current condition, that person will somehow get where he wants. Have you ever noticed that?
